What is rosehip oil?
Due to its high concentration of antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids, rosehip oil has long been valued for its skin nourishing properties. The earliest recorded uses of rosehip oil date back to the Ancient Egyptians, the Mayans, and the Native Americans. Facetheory’s rosehip oil is produced by extracting the oil of the rosehip fruit via super-critical CO2 extraction (which we find superior to cold press techniques) and blending it with organic rosehip seed oil. Rosehip oil has been widely studied and is shown to help reduce the visible signs of ageing and minimise the appearance of scarring. It is also used to treat stretch marks.
Benefits of rosehip oil
1. Deep hydration
As rosehip oil easily absorbed, it quickly penetrates and delivers its fatty acid content to the deeper layers of the skin. Rosehip oil contains linoleic and linolenic acids. These fatty acids help to reinforce the skin cell walls, which help lock in moisture and prevent water loss.
2. Exfoliation and renewal
As rosehip oil is a natural exfoliant, it helps skin to shed dead cells, thus reducing dullness, and expedites the production of new skin cells to reveal a glowing and more even-toned complexion. It contains vitamins A and C, which expedite skin cell turnover and encourage collagen production.
3. Calming and soothing
Rosehip oil is rich in polyphenols and anthocyanin, which are proven to calm irritation and reduce inflammation. It contains vitamin E, an antioxidant known for its anti-inflammatory effects. Rosehip oil is used to treat various skin conditions, including rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.
4. Targets the visible signs of ageing
The vitamin A found in rosehip oil is made up of many compounds, including retinoids. Retinoids have the proven ability to reduce hyperpigmentation and other signs of ageing. Rosehip oil contains vitamins A, C and E, which have been shown to help combat visible sun damage. Please note that although rosehip oil may be used to help reduce the effects of UV exposure, you will still need to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, such as Sunfragma ZnO with SPF50.
Is rosehip oil suitable for my skin type?
This non-greasy oil is suitable for all skin types. As it is rich in beta carotene, vitamin A, and omega oils, it is perfect for mature skin.
Can rosehip oil be used alongside other products?
Rosehip oil works well in tandem with other products, so you can wear it underneath your favourite serum and moisturiser.
How often should I use rosehip oil?
As rosehip oil is very gentle, you can use products containing rosehip oil several times each day.
