Delivery
We use the least packaging necessary to protect and deliver your order. All our cardboard is made from recycled board and items within our boxes are protected by a combination of extruded paper and a specially designed wrap to project more fragile items. We try to send all orders complete and not to split deliveries over multiple packages so that we use the minimum carbon possible.
Product Packaging
Most of our products are now available in either glass jars or aluminium tubes - two materials that have the best recycling rates within the UK according to DEFRA 2017 figures. Where there are no alternatives to the small amount of plastic we use, for instance the tube closures, we use plastic that is fully recyclable. Detailed packaging information can be found on the "DATA" link of each product.
Samples from every batch of manufactured product are sent to an independent lab to check for microbial contamination. Each sample is inoculated with bacteria before testing to make sure that the preservative in the product kills any contamination. As long as you take a little care with using the product we believe that the ecological benefits of an easy to recycle jar outweigh the convenience of plastic. We would agree that plastic does have benefits as a material (durability, weight) however we believe there are very few ecologically sound plastic choices at the moment that can be widely recycled within the UK.
Our non-manufactured items have minimal packaging and generally have a card wrap or box made from recycled card. Some of our gift sets are now packaged in reusable cotton bags.
Palm Oil
Some of our products do contain palm oil however our sourcing is now 100% RPSO.
Although there's no doubt palm oil has contributed to deforestation but now the plantations are in existence it does have significant benefits over other forms of monoculture (a significantly higher yield). This blog article from the WWF explains it far better than we can here. [insert].
Manufacturing
We proudly manufacture in Sheffield in the United Kingdom and where possible we source our ingredients and components from UK suppliers.
